There’s No Place Like Home:  Cooperative Housing at the University of California, Berkeley

2018—2019

UC Berkeley, Senior Honors Thesis

There's No Place Like Home is an ethnographic narrative and multimedia project that seeks to understand the ways in which university students conceptualize home, constructed and analyzed through the lens of the Berkeley Student Cooperative housing system. With a particular focus on aspects of transformation, embodiment, and permeability, the project situates home within contexts of transition; individual, institutional, and ephemeral memory; and spatial-social negotiations. It engages these ideas through a more traditional ethnographic account, the use of photographic and sensory documentation, and the interpretation and recontextualization of ephemera and aesthetics through collaborative art history and making.
